Amazon.com: When Eva Cassidy is swinging her way through "Cheek to Cheek" and getting down and bluesy on "Stormy Monday" on this live set from 1996, it's nigh impossible not to get swept up in her voice's vast, barreling force. Her full range, though, becomes most obvious--and soul-shaking--on the slower side, as with Paul Simon's "Bridge over Troubled Water," Buffy Sainte-Marie's "Tall Trees in Georgia," and "What a Wonderful World." On these latter tunes, Cassidy's mix of aching clarity and rich warmth has a melting quality, speaking through the body to some evanescent presence that she seems to know all too well. She improbably makes Sting's "Fields of Gold" an emotional powerhouse just as easily as she makes Billie Holiday's "Fine and Mellow" an offhand declaration of feeling equal to nearly anything in the jazz vocal canon. In doing so she earns her place among the great singers--artists who could take any song and stamp it indelibly as their own. What Eva Cassidy had in her short life was an unbelievably perfect voice and a musical soul that grasped gospel, folk, blues, jazz, and all points in between as if they were mere stops on a single train ride.  Rating: - Soulful and PerfectionEva Cassidy has the most amazingly soulful and dead on pitch during her performances. I find it hard to believe that her perfect timing and pitch could conquer the likes of being recorded live. I highly recommend this album - the perfect blend of upbeat and mellow tracks to enjoy. Rating: - A lovely recording of a beautiful voiceWith the exception of the last song on the disc (Oh, Had I a Golden Thread), these songs were recorded live as Eva Cassidy performed and sang them -- no overdubs or substitutions -- and they sound great. Her voice is wonderful, bright, crisp and clear, and she has a way of making each song her own. The recording also includes her introductions to the songs. If you have her other CDs then you owe it to yourself to get this live set. Rating: - One to play until you wear it out!There aren't adequate words for me to describe how much I respect and admire the talent of this woman. Her story is a tragic one but her gift lives on...and on. There is great variety in this collection but her penchant for folksy blues is what stands out...always. And live performances in this genre, particularly in an intimate setting such as this, are usually better than studio recordings. If you haven't heard her yet...do it soon. Even the moaning and groaning that is done in blues songs sounds good, because it's done by Eva Cassidy, who has a rich, sweet voice. The quality of the CD is good.
