Rating: - Doom 3 (Mac)
Not too bad of a game, though they over did it on the "darkness" of the game, I get what they were going for but perhaps a bit too much.
Some areas seemed a little unbalanced with respect to the enemies. The game still has some bugs in it. Had the game just stop and go
back to main menu for no reason, with no way back to the game I was playing except for load game or new game.
At one point on the game they take away all your weapons and you have to collect them all again ... Read More
Rating: - A great comeback for the Doom Legacy
I recently bought this not so new game, which featured a musical intro performed by TOOL. I mention this because, this single feature makes the game really special. The game itself it's great, it has a completly new storyboard, and a whole new set of images that enrich the game. It's not so easy to play with keyboard so I would strongly advise to get a Joystick for a better gamming experience.
Rating: - Sound effects and graphics beyond this world. Intel-ready with updates.
This is THE Mac game, quite simply because hardware demands aside it is an amazing game. I cannot even begin to imagine the programming and artwork that has gone into it. I know: "enter room, thing pops up, shoot it". But I do not play the game for the gorier bits of it, and they ARE gory and in bits .....
I play the game for the sheer wonder of it, only Myst III Exile coming close though a bit long in the tooth by now. Exceptional graphics, more 3D than anything I have yet seen, with true detailed ... Read More
Rating: - Disappointed
I've played and enjoyed the older versions of Doom on PCs. I was REALLY looking forward to this Apple version. What a disappointment! After loading and opening Doom on an IMac, Mac OS X (version 10.5.8) 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor w/4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, my screen went black and nothing I could do would cancel it. Short of unplugging the computer, I couldn't shut it off! An Apple rep got it running and after a few minutes of play at home, I realized there was no speech. Finally that was fixed and ... Read More
Rating: - Good dirty fun
The combat engine and AI are quite nice, and vast improvements over their predecessors. Gameplay stays fairly engaging throughout, though it feels a bit repetitive if played for more than an hour at a time. I think D3 has its biggest impact with the atmosphere it creates, which is effectively (if a bit unsubtly) creepy. Despite being a bit dated already, and a bit simpler than the most recent shooters, its worth the money for those who like action games.
